I just assumed it was alright for me to add random pages to this as well. They probably need some editing, since I wrote them while hopped up on pain meds.
Oh, sure. You can add any page you think is useful. I am totally fine with you guys putting stuff in this book. You may even have a better idea of what's useful to others than I do.
One of the things this software can do is handle RSS feeds. If you don't know what those are, think of them as real-time "tickers" of what is going on with a particular site. The feed aggregator can pull feeds from other sites. That's probably not something I will do, so I might as well remove the option, huh?
RSS is flexible enough that I could let you have a feed for each user, or one that gives you the stuff under "Recent posts," and so on. Firefox handles feeds natively. I think IE does, too. On Firefox, it turns into a button on your toolbar, and you click it, and it will list all the latest items published under that feed.
It's pretty slick, I just haven't messed with it yet to make sure it works right.
My journey in exploring bookzek. Since I came here I have been just sticking to the forums for the most part. This site is so different from Weedbook and I am not internet savy so the differences make it a little boggling for me. I hate being boggled so I just stuck to where and what I could learn easily IE Forums and workspace. Figuring out Book pages child parent et al almost made me cry so I stopped trying. (a childish response to frustration:)
Oh but wait why didn't our hero ask for help? He is a guy and guys don't ask for directions LOL. (dumb reason number six)
I have decided to rectify the situation by exploring what is here like I would normaly but did not do here for some reason. Will probably have some questions in the next week or so.
I knew that the massive feature set of Bookzek would be an impediment for some people. Thing is, though, you can post book pages all day long and not give a damn about the outlines or the parents or children or any of that. All that stuff is optional. It just helps keep the site organized if you do take advantage of them, you know?
It would be cool if, as a Manual to the site "Book Zek", there were highlighted words that linked to other chapters in the manual. Like "Book Zek points" could link to the chapter that explains what they are and how they are used/earned.
All in all, the Survivors Guide is a great way to get people involved in the site to begin with. They can post questions and/or comments and earn points in the process.
Yeah, this is not organized very well, is it? I didn't want to install a free-linking system so I'll have to do it the old-fashioned (read: manual) way. Which isn't terrible, it just takes a while. I'll see what I can do about cleaning this up. Maybe I should even break these down into sections... or make it all into one page so it's easier to follow.
Joe: The relationship stuff is just a social networking thing. It's no different from having "friends" on MySpace or Facebook or whatever. It doesn't confer any specific benefits except that you can control permissions on a relationship basis, too. That is, you can make a book page visible only to a "Friend" or "Spouse."
Since you've been such a good sport so far, I went ahead and gave you enough points to meet the threshold. Just don't post any book pages until you've hit 60 points--if you fall below 50, you'll become a limited member again.
Now that you're a full member, you can post blogs, forum topics, etc.
