"Yes, fine, shut up!" he shouted, turning off the automated alarm. He regretted setting it to get louder and more obnoxious the longer he ignored it, but some days, it was the only thing that dragged him out of bed.

Chapter 30: Into the Fold

Date: August 28, 1997
Location: Magna Tower, Manhattan, USA
Mission: Meet with Ryan Andriesen.

It was a gamble, I admit. I walked straight into the building and up to the receptionist, who was busy with a phone call at the time. When she finished, she looked up at me and gave me a nasal, "Can I help you?"

I tapped my fingers on the countertop that separated us. "Yeah, I need to see Mr. Andriesen."

Chapter 3: Circumvention

Earth. Say it enough times, it starts to sound a bit silly. Maybe that's why we branded everything "Terran." "Earther" doesn't really roll off the tongue, does it? "Human" has a lot of connotations, when translated, that our diplomats were never comfortable using it. But if we're "Terrans" from the "Terran Alliance," well, that all fits together nicely, right?
